Tankless Water Heater Repair

Tankless Water Heater Repairs for Columbia & Augusta Homes

Cassell Brothers' plumber standing next to service truck arriving to a home

No hot water from your tankless unit? Our licensed plumbers diagnose and repair every major tankless brand across Columbia, Irmo, Lexington, and Augusta, with same-day appointments available.

A tankless system is supposed to deliver hot water on demand, so when it stops, waiting it out isn't really an option. Error codes, ignition failures, water that runs hot then cold, and units that shut down under heavy demand all point to problems worth diagnosing properly rather than guessing at. Cassell Brothers services tankless water heaters throughout the Midlands and the CSRA.

Why Upgrade to a Tankless Water Heater?

If your water heater consistently breaks down or keeps driving your energy bill up, now is the perfect time to consider a tankless water heater system. However, even if your water heater is working okay, you may be more comfortable and end up spending less money by going tankless. With installation offers on all the latest products, such as the peerless trutankless® whole-home electric system, there’s no reason not to call Cassell Brothers about installation today.

Common Tankless Water Heater Problems We Repair

Tankless systems fail differently than traditional tank heaters, and the symptom usually points to the cause. Here's what we see most often across the Midlands and the Augusta area.

No hot water or an error code on the display. Most tankless units display a fault code when they shut down, and that code narrows the problem considerably. Ignition failures, flame sensor faults, and flow sensor issues all present this way. We read the code, confirm it against what the unit is actually doing, and repair from there.

The unit lights, then shuts off within seconds. Usually an ignition or flame-sensing problem rather than a failed unit. The system is detecting something it doesn't like and shutting down as designed — which is the safety system working, not breaking.

Water runs hot, then cold, then hot again. Often called a cold water sandwich. It can point to a flow sensor, a modulating valve, or a unit undersized for the demand being placed on it. Diagnosis matters here, because the fix depends entirely on which one it is.

Reduced flow or scale buildup. Mineral deposits accumulate on the heat exchanger over time and restrict both flow and heat transfer. A descaling flush resolves many of these; a badly scaled exchanger sometimes doesn't. We'll tell you which you're looking at.

Leaking at the unit or its connections. Shut off the water and the gas or power, then call. A leaking tankless unit isn't a wait-and-see problem.

Blocked venting or air intake. Combustion units need clear intake and exhaust. Obstructions cause shutdowns that look like unit failure but aren't.

If you smell gas, don't troubleshoot — shut off the supply and call immediately.

Why Homeowners Call Cassell Brothers for Tankless Repair

Tankless systems are different enough from tank heaters that experience with one doesn't automatically transfer to the other. Our plumbers work on tankless units regularly across Columbia, Irmo, Lexington, Augusta, and the surrounding areas, and we service every major brand — including units we didn't install.

What that means when we show up:

  • Same-day appointments when the schedule allows, because a tankless unit that won't fire isn't something to sit on
  • Emergency service with no overtime charges — the price doesn't change because it's a Saturday
  • Upfront pricing confirmed before any work begins, so you approve the number, not a surprise
  • A one-year warranty on parts and labor for every repair we perform
  • An honest repair-or-replace answer. On a newer unit, most tankless problems are worth fixing. On an older one with a failing heat exchanger, we'll say so rather than sell you a repair that won't hold
  • Licensed, background-checked, drug-tested technicians who explain what failed and why
  • Financing available if the diagnosis turns into a larger job

Ongoing maintenance is what keeps most tankless problems from recurring — annual descaling in particular. Our Cassell Comfort Club handles that scheduling for you.
